WALL, Bernhardt. Abraham Lincoln: A Chronology. Sierra Madre, 1946. 36 miniature etchings (including one miniature mounted on front pastedown, plus cover label and etcher's slip), approximately 4.5 x 3 cm. (1-6/8 x 1-1/4 inches), wove paper, each mounted within an etched ornamental frame border, 2 signed by Wall. Various colored inks. 20.5 x 18.0 cm. (8-1/16 x 7-1/8 inches), wove paper. Original hand-bound red paper-covered boards, etched label on upper cover. In d.j. with etched spine label.
Limited edition (#F2 of 200 signed copies). See Weber, p. 48. Apparently the present work and Lincoln's Gettysburg Speech were the first books in which Bernhardt Wall employed elegant ornamental frames around miniature texts and illustrations throughout. With his ingenious marriage of etched decorative borders and miniature plates Wall created something unique in the world of press books. Wall's choice of refined colors in the present volume makes it truly special. 70000007
