Carvajal, 1835]. 4to (32.3 x 22.8 cm). Broadside on unwatermarked laid paper. With contemporary ink manuscript message, signed by José Ángel Navarro, political chief of Bexar, with his paraph, dated Béxar, June 16, 1835, transmitting this copy to the government at Goliad. Creased where formerly folded, some minor edge wear and wrinkling, lightly soiled at right blank margin. Overall, very good.

     First edition. Kimball 324. The law here repealed (Kimball 247) granted broad powers to the governor to use whatever measures necessary to repress thieves while the legislature enacted proper legislation on the matter. José Ángel Navarro (1784-1836) was an outstanding Tejano patriot during the Texas Revolution and a signer of the Bexar Remonstrance. He sheltered some Texans from Cos on his ranch, giving refuge to Samuel Maverick, among others. Two of his daughters survived the Battle of the Alamo. Handbook of Texas Online: José Ángel Navarro.
