Lithograph map, original coloring in outline and wash showing the opposing armies at the 1856 siege of Puebla, overall sheet size: 47.7 x 59 cm. Small tear at left side extending into text, right side trimmed close (slight loss of neat line), creased where formerly folded, otherwise fine. Excellent period lithography in Mexico. First edition. The map appeared in Anselmo de la Portilla’s, Historia de la Revolución de México contra la dictadura del general Santa-Anna 1853-1855 (Mexico: Imprenta de Vicente García Torres, 1856; Palau 129763, Sabin 38612 & 76734), a history of the last overthrow of Santa Anna during his eleventh term in office. The map here depicts the siege of Puebla by progressive forces in the face of a revolt by Mexican conservatives. The progressives forced the city to surrender on March 22nd.
